Blondie was a Blast !
One of the most fun shows this year was the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra & Pat Benatar tour at Chastain Park. The show kicked off in loud, fine form with The Donnas, who only played a 6 song set but still managed to grab everyone's attention. Pat Benatar took the stage following a strong instrumental intro from her husband & bandmate, Neil Giraldo. Ms. Benatar's incredible voice rocked the crowd with songs ranging from 'Shadows in the Night' to 'Invincible', including surprises like 'Hell is for Children' and an encore of 'Heartbreaker'. They engaged with the crowd in a friendly manner, reminiscent of your next door neighbors forming a band. Blondie delivered a powerful performance with a blistering rendition of 'Call Me', leading into 'Hangin' on the Telephone'. Deborah Harry, looking and sounding great, charmed the audience all night. The setlist combined classic hits like 'Picture of You' and album cuts such as 'The Hardest Part' with newer tracks like "Maria". Although I would have preferred more songs over the extended version of 'Rapture', 'Heart of Glass' closed the night, with a tribute to MJ's "Don't Stop til you Get Enough" mixed in. Despite my wish for more material from the first three albums, the show is definitely worth checking out.
